Context

when? where? who? why?

Nowadays, technology has a lead role in our societies. In fact, children grow up in an ultra-connected world and their relationship to nature is therefore weaker. Virtual Reality games have replaced family activities such as hikes and walks. It is our duty to help younger generations to reconnect with nature.

As reported by studies, on average, children today play outside for just over four hours a week, compared to 8.2 hours a week when the adults questioned were children.Furthermore,as urbanisation expandes, outdoors activities become less accessible, worse, sometime less attractive. Kids need to spend time in nature at least, that's the Child mind institute's conclusion. According to the study, "The national panic about kids spending too much time indoors has become so extreme that the crisis has a name: Nature deficit disorder. Thus, it seems that getting children outdoors as become a major challenge for parents. Is there an outdoor activity more connected to nature than hiking ? How to make it more entertaining and attractive for kids?

Project 2: Hikepedia

Context

when? where? who? why?

Imagine an app that allows you to identify the wildlife surrounding you during you hike, an app that educates you and your children in a fun way, without needing Internet service.

Target

for whom?

Our main target is families willing to go on hikes.

Why?
Hiking with your kids can really be a pleasant and fulfilling experience. But they have shorter legs, faster metabolisms, and a limited attention span, which means that if you want to keep enjoying your hike, you need to keep them entertained ! Remeber that a happy kid means a happy parent, and an all the more pleasurable experience !

Service offered

what? how?

It is very simple, just create one account per family to discover a new way to enjoy hiking with kids.

Operation:
All you have to do is take a picture of a natural element you wish to indentify, be it an animal footprint, a flower or a mineral. The app does the rest, by comparing your picture to the encyclopedical database included. When your picture matches one in the database, you get all the information you could wish for ! What's more, it works like a real-life hiking Pokédex™ : all of your pictures are stored as achievements, and you get hiking badges when you reach a number of pics !

Price:
It is free to all users, there is no fee to be charged. (A little bit of advertisement, only hiking-related)
